Soules Gem

Every couple of years a student knocks my socks off with an ingenious approach. Here is Jeff Soules on Huffman. You are given n numbers (the frequencies) and n-1 times you want to take out the two smallest and replace them with their sum. In class and the text we use Min-Heap. Jeff uses two lists, ALPHABET (the original) and COMPOSITE (the created ones) and, with great cleverness, keeps them ordered. Congrats Jeff! Click here pdf for how he does it.
