Dear Friends & Colleagues,

This is a further reminder of the seventeenth annual Midwest PhilMath
Workshop (MWPMW 17), to be held at Notre Dame the weekend of Saturday,
November 12th and Sunday, November 13th, 2016. As usual, the plan is for a
full day of talks and discussions on Saturday and a half day on Sunday.
Also as usual, there will be a workshop lunch and a workshop dinner on
Saturday, with all participants invited to attend as guests of the
university.

We're fortunate to have Ms. Lauri Roberts (lroberts at nd.edu) as the workshop
manager again this year. Please help her and us, the planners and
organizers, by completing the workshop registration form at:
http://goo.gl/forms/VBNcdcciG6

If you’re interested in giving a talk, please email a pdf of your talk or a
substantial summary to Paddy (pblanche at nd.edu), Tim (tbays at nd.edu), Curtis (
cfranks at nd.edu) and me (mdetlef1 at nd.edu). We would like to have all
proposals for talks by September 18th so that we can set the program by
late September. Talks should be 35--40 minutes in length, with 15--20
minutes left for discussion.

We’re pleased to announce that we will be having featured talks by Pr.
Lydia Patton (Philosophy, Virginia Tech U) and Pr. Michael Rathjen
(Mathematics, U of Leeds). Pr. Rathjen will be speaking on “On Feferman’s
Second Conjecture". Pr. Patton will be giving a talk titled "Fishbones,
Wheels, Eyes, and Butterflies: Is There a Unified Account of Mathematical
and Physical Modeling?”.

We ask that you share this announcement with others you think might be
interested in attending MWPMW 17, both students and faculty. As usual we
have limited funds to help defray expenses for student participants coming
from out of town whose departments do not have funds to defray their costs.
These funds will generally take the form of subventions for lodging. If you
are interested in applying for such a subvention, please notify us of this
as soon as possible. Please also arrange for your director of graduate
studies to email us to confirm that your department cannot meet your
expenses.

That's it for now. We hope you're having a good spring, and we look forward
to seeing you at MWPMW 17 in November. To stay abreast of developments and
program information, please consult the workshop website at
https://mdetlefsen.nd.edu/midwest-philmath-workshop/mwpmw-17/ .

Cordially,

Mic Detlefsen, Paddy Blanchette, Tim Bays and Curtis Franks
Directorate, MWPMW 17
