Perhaps extending the topic too far, but there is a nice
physics conference I happen to be attending next week
(5 full days, Chomsky one of the keynote speakers, 80+
speakers total) which is concerned with just such issues
among others.  The name is "DICE2016 Spacetime - Matter
- Quantum Mechanics", in Italy.
