CSCI-UA.4 Web Design and Computer Principles - Summer 2016
Assignment # 3 - Photoshop
Due: Tues., July 19th

Ever want to see yourself at the Oscars, or walking on the moon, or swimming
through the human blood stream? Well, in this assignment, you can!

Summary:

In this assignment, you should create a picture of yourself that has been made using layers. This picture should feature a scan of yourself placed into an unlikely, unique or impossible location. There should be at least six objects on six layers, including the picture of yourself, and you should try to make it look as "realistic" as possible, given the imaginary nature of the picture! You might place yourself at the North Pole, for example, climbing the Eiffel Tower, jumping over the moon ... or simply standing beside the President at his Inaugural. At least one layer should contain text (your name) and any additional comment(s) if you wish.

Resources:

Pay special attention to the edges of objects, shadows and lighting as well as to the proportions of your objects. Use filters and layer effects to enhance your image.

We have created an example in reverse: A famous personage standing in a contemporary surrounding. You may download all the source files that were used to create this image, which include a photo taken recently by this writer, a couple of clip art images, and a picture of a famous personality. You may also get the final Photoshop file as well. We have also written a brief description of the work that went into preparing the final picture.

There are many, many tools that are available in Photoshop, and we encourage you to explore them. Please, have fun with this assignment and feel free to use your imagination!

Submit:

Submit your assignment as follows:

    1. Save your file in a Photoshop format; then using SAVE FOR WEB, create a .JPG file as well.
    2. Put both the .JPG and .PSD files together into one zipped file. A note on creating compressed files on the Mac: The easiest way is to CTRL-Click on the folder, and then choose "Create Archive". That should create a zip file. If Stuffit is installed, it will also be visible on that menu.
    3. Create a web page called "assign2.html" and link it to your index.html page. On that page, include your jpg, and a link to your zip file.
    4. Post your Photoshop files in Stuffit or Zip format to "NYU Classes" via your home.nyu.edu account.
