What I like about clothes is what I like about objects, that is, what the thing evokes, the beginning of a story -- a beautiful fabric or texture or color may suggest a certain place or association - the tufted bedspreads of Cape Cod from another era, a late summer quality of light... As a result, no thing I own specifically goes with any other. I can only stumble onto a good combination of clothes, for example, and then wear them until they fall apart.
