In this posting, we move the presentation in 677:Embedded Maximality
and Pi01 Incompleteness/2 over to the environment of PARTIAL
FUNCTIONS.
For the implicitly Pi01 statements, we will still be using maximality
for the "optimality". We obtain a huge simplification in the punch
line, which is now simply
has a maximal element equivalent at (0,...,k-1) and (1,...,k)
where equivalence here means equal or both undefined at the arguments
(0,...,k-1) and (1,...,k).
We shall see that the price we pay for this extremely simple
conclusion is very small.
For the explicitly Pi01 statements, we will be using something more
nuanced than mere maximality. Hence the use of "optimality".
1. IMPLICITLY Pi01
We use the space RPF(Q^k|<=k) of regressive partial functions from
Q^k|<=k into Q^k|<=k obeying max(f(x)) < min(x). A function is
equivalent at x,y if and only if it has the same value at x,y, or it
is undefined at x,y.
We use similarity on RPF(Q^k|<=k), which means that the restrictions
to <=2 element domains are the same up to order isomorphism.
SYMMETRIC OPTIMALITY. In every equivalence class of RPF(Q^k|<=k) under
similarity, some maximal element is equivalent at (0,...,k-1) and
(1,...,k).
THEOREM 1.1. Symmetric Optimality is provably equivalent to a Pi01
sentence via the Goedel Completeness Theorem.
THEOREM 1.2. Symmetric Optimality is provably equivalent to Con(SRP)
over WKL_0.
2. EXPLICITLY Pi01
We use the space RPF([kt]^k-1) of regressive partial functions from
[kt]^k-1 into [kt]^k-1. k-similarity on RPF([kt]^k-1) means that the
restrictions to <=k element domains are the same up to order
isomorphism.
We use optimality. Let K be a subset of RPF([kt]^k-1). An optimal
element of K is an element of K such that no extension in K is defined
at any new element of {t,2t,...,kt}^k.
FINITE SYMMETRIC OPTIMALITY. Let t >= (8k)!!. In every equivalence
class of RPF([kt]^k-1) under k-similarity, some optimal element is
equivalent at (t,2t,...,(k-1)t) and (2t,3t,...,kt).
THEOREM 2.1. Finite Symmetric Optimality is provably equivalent to
Con(SRP) over EFA.
3. COMMENTS
This should now be enough for me to stop making any further
simplifications. The reversals are now stacked up quite high with
recent new ideas. I am still looking to the end of 2016 for a detailed
proof of the three theorems in this posting.
