ENGL-GA.2957-1 Digital Literary Texts- Fall, 2013
PART C
CSS for Text and color
Summary:
In this assignment, you have the opportunity to build an external style sheet ( a .CSS file) to complement your Author site (project #1).
Contents of your site:
Add contents to your site (or perhaps you have already!) related to the following subject matter as a way to explore styles:
- secondary sources (e.g. a short bibliography)
- literary excerpts by your author
- any additional images (e.g. a library or museum where the author's work is held)
- biographical notes on your author
- any other topics you deem relevent (e.g. contextualize the author's work with respect to historical events or movements, contextualize the author's work with other works of that era in the arts, etc)
Steps:
Here is a list of technical elements to include in your .css document:
- Add a style sheet (".css" document) to your site; every web page should then be linked to your stylesheet(s)
- Create at least five original styles which use class selectors
- Create at least three styles which use tag selectors (i.e. which modify HTML tags)
- Create at least two styles which use ID selectors
Use distinctive styles to differentiate primary from secondary sources, for example; for the author's work (excerpts of poetry for example); or for footnotes, citations, and other specific areas of text.
Keep in mind the principles of web design with respect to readability of the web pages; logical placement of content; persistent navigation and other design aspects based on our class discussions and your readings.
What to submit:
Upload your files (images, .css files, HTML files) with software from ITS or directly from Fetch , Fugu or winscpor another SFTP client to the i6.cims.nyu.edu UNIX server. Your files should go in the directory (i.e., sub-folder) called public_html on the UNIX server. Test your files using Chrome, Safari or Internet Explorer again once they are on the web server.
Send the URL to your site by email to both instructors.
