INFORMATION FOR MIDTERM (Mon Oct 26)
PREPARATION
-
Quiz 2 gives you some idea of the midterm.
Here is Quiz 2 (with solutions).
-
Homework 4 is also supposed to be a preparation
for the midterm. So you might as well try to do it.
It is not due until a week after midterm however.
-
Reminder: besides preparing a sheet of 8"x11" notes,
you can bring a xeroxed copy of Appendix A of text book.
READING LIST
-
The midterm will cover material from chapters 1 to 6.
I regard Chapters 2, 5 and 6 as more important.
Also, the Java code should be read MAINLY to understand
the concepts, NOT to be memorized for details!
-
Chapter 1: skim.
-
Chapter 2: skip nothing.
-
Chapter 3: skip 3.2.4 (threads) and all of 3.5 (stock applet).
-
Chapter 4: skip nothing.
-
Chapter 5: skip 5.3.4 (template) and all of 5.5 (binary tree applet).
-
Chapter 6: NEW! This
material is now omitted from midterm.
-
NOTE: previously, we asked you to skip 6.4 (locator) only.
OLD MIDTERM
Here is the postscript file for
midterm exam from the last time I taught
this course. Here is the same
midterm with solutions.
Please take this with a big grain of salt because each
class is slightly different!
NOTE: on unix machines, to print a postscript file
named "myfile.ps" to a printer named "myprinter", simply type
% lpr -Pmyprinter myfile.ps
[There is no space after "-P"]
