Basic Algorithms Class
Some hints about working on your UNIX accounts
on acf5 machine (comes with your class).
Everything I say below will hold true of your
omicron machine account (which many of you have).
- You can make files in these accounts accessible from
the netscape browser as follows:
-
Create a directory in your account called "public_html".
-
Change its permissions to read and executable by all:
-
% chmod a+xr public_html
-
Change your home directory to be executable by all.
Here I use my own home directory "cy1" as example:
-
% chmod a+x ../cy1
-
Now, if you point your netscape browser at
the URL: http://acf5.nyu.edu/~cy1/,
you will be able to download or see any files
from the public_html directory.
-
There are java compilers in these machines.
You can telnet from any machine in the PC labs to acf5,
and do your java programming on acf5.
-
The problem is that we will have java programming problems
that involve graphics, like applets. In this case,
you cannot quite view your graphic output using telnet
from the PC's. But you can view the graphics as
applets from your browser.
