Dear Resident:
As you may know, annual ceiling inspections as per the asbestos management program are overseen by the NYU Department of Environmental Health & Safety. This memo outlines the plan and timetable for conducting the full visual inspection of the Silver Towers apartments that have asbestos-containing ceilings, including those which may have previously been visited in response to individual requests received within the past year.
About the Inspections
Visual inspections of all Silver Towers apartments will be conducted. In order for these inspections to be conducted efficiently and to ensure that every apartment is inspected without fail, we are requesting your assistance by ensuring that we may access your apartment during the periods outlined in the attached inspection schedule.
Scheduling Inspections
To ensure resident safety, all inspections will be conducted only on the specified dates and times. By completing this form, please confirm your inspection date and indicate if you will provide access by your attendance during the inspection, or alternatively, you may provide us with permission to enter in your absence. Please complete and return this form to your door attendant no later than November 7. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Client Services Center at 212-998-1001 or via email contactcsc@nyu.edu prior to your scheduled date.
The Inspection
Certified asbestos investigators from TRC will perform the visual inspections. Each inspector
from TRC will be provided with an NYU contractor identification badge that they will present to you at the time of the inspection. Please do not admit entry to your apartment to anyone that you do not recognize who does not have an NYU identification badge. Each inspector will be accompanied by a guard; should you not be available during your scheduled inspection time, and you have provided us with permission to enter your apartment in your absence, the building staff will provide TRC access and will remain with the inspector throughout the inspection.
A typical inspection will be completed in about 15 minutes. The inspection will consist of visually inspecting the physical condition of the ceilings in all rooms and documenting the conditions of
these ceilings with photos and notes. The investigator will provide NYU with a final report of conditions along with recommendations for any corrective actions they deem necessary. If a ceiling is found to be damaged, we will contact you to schedule the necessary repairs.
Let me take this opportunity to remind you that any time you become aware of potential problems with asbestos-containing materials – such as a ceiling being disturbed – you should
immediately contact the Client Services Center at 212-998-1001 or via email contactcsc@nyu.edu. The Client Services Center is staffed from 6:00 am to 10:00 pm Monday through Friday and 8:00 am to 8:00 pm on Saturday and Sunday to promptly respond to your call.
Thank you for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Erin Lynch
