Our goal for the end of the semester:
-
Make things you don't usually get to make in a C.S. class
-
A show, open to the public, in which you will get
to show off your projects.
Some directions:
-
Kaleidoscope
-
Multitouch (only students already working w. Jeff)
-
Expanding the round table
-
Programmable game world with images, shadows, etc. of
real objects - chairs, tables, vases, etc.
-
Mini-cave
-
Robot vehicles that interact with people in interesting ways
-
Other sorts of puppets - eg: an interactive string puppet (eg bird)
-
Kaleidoscope cave (projector + two mirrors + retroreflective screen)
-
Immersive sound environments
-
A smart "shadow wall" for telepresence.
-
Choreographing people as Breightenberg vehicles
-
Lighting that responds to your position in the room
(eg: vision system to see which way you are facing,
and always provides indirect lighting).
-
Other ideas from class...
Assignment for Feb 6:
-
Find existing ideas out there that inspire you.
-
Start a web page.
-
Describe one or two ideas you want to work on.
-
It is ok to team up into small groups if you'd like.
-
Create a really compelling inspirational picture.
-
Go ahead and be wild and crazy, fun and kooky,
but think through the feasibility issues:
- What are the materials?
- What kind of engineering expertise will be needed?
- How much programming will be needed?
- What are the costs?
- How much space will it take up?
-
Describe the "user's experience" in some detail.
-
BE PREPARED TO PRESENT YOUR PRELIMINARY PLANS ON FEB 6.
