• When characters are used inside a string constant, they are just printed on the screen, and do not have an effect on the logic. The characters in the printf statement are just printed on the screen. When used in other statements, the assignment symbol (a single “equals sign”) causes a new value to be assigned to a variable:

  temp = 32;
  
  grade = 100;
