The following remark is attributed to Leopold Kronecker in at least two places.

Das Aufsuchen der Invarianten ist eine sch\"{o}ne, ja sogar die sch\"{o}nste Aufgabe der Mathematik, aber noch mehr, es ist sogar ihre einzige Aufgabe.  Und auch damit ist es noch nicht genug:\ es ist einzige Aufgaben aller Wissenschaften \"{u}berhaupt.

Neither site gives any publication, however, as the textual source of the remark.  Can anyone say specifically whence the remark comes?
