The Milano Logic Group http://www.filosofia.unimi.it/logic is thrilled to advertise a postdoc position (one year, renewable) on the project “Quantitative and qualitative approximations of reasoning”.
THE PROJECT
The goal of the project is to extend Depth-Bounded Logics
– on the lines of the recent results obtained by the group on the Depth-bounded approximation of probability http://www.filosofia.unimi.it/logic/depth-bounded-approximations-of-probability and belief functions https://doi.org/10.1016/j.ijar.2020.05.001
– with qualitative aspects (modal, dynamic, and multiagent) for reasoning about knowledge, in particular under negative trust http://www.filosofia.unimi.it/logic/a-logic-of-negative-trust/ and trustworthiness http://www.filosofia.unimi.it/logic/new-paper-5/
– and combining the two.
THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
The ideal applicant will have (or have submitted at the time of applying) a strong PhD in Logic, either in computer science, mathematics or philosophy. Very good knowledge of either probability- or epistemic logics is mandatory. Good command of both is an advantage.
Potential applicants are strongly encouraged to get acquainted with the Logic Group’s style of research, described here http://www.filosofia.unimi.it/logic/research/ and can get a feel for what’s expected from their research by looking at the Group’s recent publications http://www.filosofia.unimi.it/logic/recent-publications/ .
The appointed researcher will be expected to contribute to the activities of the Logic Group, to present and publish their results at high-standard conferences and journals.
THE LOGIC GROUP
The selected candidate will join a thriving research group based at the Department of Philosophy at the University of Milan, and will be working under the joint supervision of Marcello D’Agostino, Hykel Hosni and Giuseppe Primiero. In addition, the Logic group comprises two postdoctoral researchers and three PhD students — all working on topics related to this project.
