[FOM] when did set theory prevail

Dear FOM members,
I wonder, when and by which means did it become clear to the majority of 
logicians and mathematicians at large that
set theory (say in Zermelo's or ZF(C) or similar) prevailed over Russell's 
theory of types (as in Principia)?
