[FOM] Friedman's chess conjectures

Readers who are intrigued by Harvey Friedman's
chess conjectures may be interested in the 
excellent books "Games of No Chance"
and "More Games of No Chance".  In particular,
they should have a look at Jonathan Schaeffer's
fascinating article on how close theoreticians
have come to a complete analysis of checkers.

By the way, I don't quite agree with
Hardy's low opinion of chess problems.
Some endgame studies give me the same kind
of aesthetic pleasure as neat mathematical
proofs.
