Dear FOM subscribers,

After nearly five years running the FOM mailing list, I have decided
to step down as Moderator of FOM. I plan to stay on as a member of
the FOM Editorial Board, and as an FOM subscriber.

Harvey Friedman and I founded the FOM mailing list in 1997. I took on
the responsibility of setting it up and running it, because I wanted a
forum for serious, lively, interactive, high-level discussion of
issues and programs in foundations of mathematics (f.o.m.). For
several years the FOM list was very successful, and I found much value
in many lively and fruitful f.o.m. discussions. The inauguration of
the FOM Editorial Board in July 2000 marked the end of an era and the
beginning of a new one. I hope and expect that the FOM list will
continue to be useful as a vehicle for promoting f.o.m.

Martin Davis has agreed to take over as the new Moderator. The
current FOM mailing list and web site here at the Pennsylvania State
University will be deactivated in favor of a new FOM mailing list and
web site at Martin's institution, New York University. Martin will
soon announce details of the transition.

Best wishes to all,
-- Steve Simpson
