We discuss a new result in reverse mathematics at the level of Pi-1-1-CA_0.

For our purposes, a countable algebra is a system whose domain is a subset
of omega (possibly empty), with at most countably many constant and
function symbols of various arities. Subalgebras are defined in the usual

A countable algebra is said to be finitely generated if and only if it has
a finite set of generators. A countable algebra is said to be nonfinitely
generated if and only if it is not finitely generated.

THEOREM 1.1. In RCA_0, "every countable algebra with a nonfinitely
generated subalgebra has a maximal nonfinitely generated subalgebra" is
equivalent to Pi-1-1-CA_0. This also holds for a single binary function,
and for two unary functions.

THEOREM 1.2. Theorem 1 for countable unary algebras with a single unary
function is provable in RCA_0.
