Two (possibly four) tenure track positions available beginning August 23, 1999. 
Appointments will be at the rank of assistant professor.  Teaching load is the 
equivalent of three courses per semester (8-10 contact hours).  Demonstrated 
excellence, or the potential for excellence, in teaching will be a primary 
consideration.  Successful applicants should have an active research program in 
mathematics  or mathematics education  with a commitment to continued scholarly 
and professional growth.  Degree requirement should be met by August 1999.
     
One position is restricted to applicants having a doctorate in mathematics 
education and experience and research interests at the elementary/middle school 
grade level with a preference for the elementary level.  Applicants should have 
significant coursework in mathematics.  The Department of Mathematics provides 
all mathematics content and methods courses for K-12 teacher certification 
programs at both baccalaureate and master's degree programs.  A regular part of 
the teaching load for this position is classes taught at the WIU Regional Center
in Moline, IL in rotation with with other faculty in mathematics education. 
     
A second position is open only to applicants having a Ph.D. degree in 
mathematics by August 1999.  The Department has a commitment to integrate the 
use of computer algebra systems and graphing technologies into the teaching of 
mathematics.  The successful applicant will be encouraged to contribute to this 
goal.  There are approximately 80 undergraduate majors and 12 master's degree 
candidates in mathematics.  The department supports student chapters of the 
Mathematical Association of America and Kappa Mu Epsilon National Mathematics 
Honor Society.
     
The review process will begin January 15, 1999.  Completed applications will 
include a resume, three letters of reference, and photocopies of transcripts
