<D1. Dedekind proposes to view numbers as creations of the
< human mind. That they are manifestations of its creative
< power is the principal reason which Dedekind puts
< forward against Weber's reductionist propositions.
Cuts in Q are not less "creations of the human mind" as
the reals. Thus I would interpret D's view, more sharply,
as follows:
... view [real] numbers as creations of the human mind,
which existed prior to and independently of the presentation
of them as cuts or any other similar one.
