FOM: Synthese issue

People might be interested in a recent issue of the philosophical
journal Synthese (vol 111, May 1997), which I guest edited.
It is subtitled Proof and Progress in Mathematics, and was
initially inspired by a Jaffe-Quinn article, Theoretical
Mathematics in the Bulletin of the AMS. The Synthese issue
includes articles by Arthur Jaffe, Saunders MacLane, Jaakko
Hintikka, Gian-Carlo Rota (two), and Barry Mazur. Perhaps
you have heard of these mathematicians; they write from a
large perspective on mathematics, often on the role of
proof.
