Houma Man Sentenced to 5 Years for Crack Distribution
NOV 07 (NEW ORLEANS )  -  James L. Earls, Jr., 30, a resident of Houma, Louisiana, was sentenced in federal court on November 7, 2012, by United States District Judge Helen G. Berrigan to five years (60 months) imprisonment for his role in a conspiracy to distribute cocaine base or "crack". In addition to the term of imprisonment, Judge Berrigan ordered that Earls be placed on six years of supervised release following the term of imprisonment. Earls was found guilty on February 7, 2012, after a two-day trial.
The case was investigated by the Louisiana State Police and the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). The prosecution was handled by Assistant United States Attorneys William Quinlan, Jr. and Edward Rivera.
