Lawrence Doctor Charged with Distribution of Oxycodone

BOSTON, MA - A Lawrence doctor was charged today in federal court with illegally distributing Oxycodone.
Steve W. Derr, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration - Boston Field Division, United States Attorney Michael J. Sullivan, Warren T. Bamford, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation - Boston Field Division, Colonel Mark Delaney, Superintendent of the Massachusetts State Police and Police John J. Romero of the Lawrence Police Department announced today that 
PAUL D. WEINSTEIN, M.D. , age 57, of North Andover was charged in a criminal Complaint with the illegal distribution of Oxycodone.
The Complaint alleges that 
WEINSTEIN  engaged in the illegal sale of Oxycodone prescriptions from his medical office, the North Andover Medical Center located in Lawrence.
As alleged in the Complaint, 
WEINSTEIN  sold prescriptions for Oxycodone to both an undercover agent and a confidential informant on a number of occasions in February and March of 2009 for cash payments involving thousands of dollars. It is further alleged that these illegal sales of prescriptions took place at 
WEINSTEIN 's office at the North Andover Medical Center.
If convicted on these charges, 
WEINSTEIN  faces up to 20 years imprisonment, to be followed by up to 3 years of supervised release and a $1,000,000 fine.
The case was investigated by the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Drug Enforcement Administration, the Massachusetts State Police and the Lawrence Police Department.
