Optimization of Phase-Field Damage Evolution
Speaker: Winni Wollner, Darmstadt
Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1302

Synopsis:
Optimization of damage evolution is a mathematically challenging task. Due to natural assumptions, such as irreversibility of damage, the lower level, damage, problem is a variational inequality. Thus the optimization becomes an MPCC in function space. Within the talk, we will consider a damage model in discrete time, and discuss the corresponding optimization problem based on a sequence of regularized optimization problems. We will discuss convergence of these regularized problems based on new regularity results and show the computational feasibility of the resulting optimization problems.
