The faculty and staff of the Program in Museum Studies have voted unanimously to express concern regardng the NYU 2031 plan for expansion on the "superblocks" between West 3rd Street and Houston Street. We are troubled by the lack of adequate consultation with the faculty regarding a scale of this scale, cost, and local impact. We are concerned about the lack of financial transparency, given the plan's potential effect on university salaries and the tuition fees charged to NYU students, who are among the most indebted in the country. We are troubled by the potential environmental impact of the plan and its consequences for relations between the university and the Greenwich Village community. Finally, we are concerned about the architecture of the plan and the design's lack of commitment to public and green space.
