Word Lexicon Co-occurrence Development

Under construction

     Introduction:
The work of approving word-class co-occurrence patterns as they appear in particular sentences is an aid to the construction of Selection Lists. These lists are used to adjust parse trees so that the words linked together in syntactic arrangements, like an adjective modifying a noun, for example, "make sense"
ADJ-Nchronicbronchitis
approvedADJ:(H-TMDUR)N:(H-DIAG)

ADJ-Nleftinjury
not approvedADJ:(H-PTAREA)N:(H-INDIC)
The latter example occurred in: "a left foot injury" where "left" modifies "foot", not "injury."

When a sufficient number of approved patterns is accummulated, they may constitute a trial sel of Selection Lists to be applied to a body of parsed texts to determine whether the use of the lists aids in obtaining correct results, or they be used in other ways to prune existing lists which may have become too permissive in previous work.

The results presented here are not complete for the pruning of MLP Selection Lists. The interested user is invited to continue this work with help from the MLP group.
