Plaque for Babylonian museum Yamain Moshi Shasha was born in Bagdhad, one of seven children. Except for a trip to England and several trips to Lebanon, he lived all his life in Bagdhad. His wife Messouda, whose maiden name was Aboudi, also lived her entire life in Bagdhad except for several trips to Lebanon. Yamain was a merchant importing cotton piece goods from Manchester, selling them throughout Iraq and through agents in Iran, and exporting various products from these countries to England. He was a man devoted his family consisting of eight children and to his business. Messouda was devoted to her husband and to her children and supervised her household with the aid of a team of servants. Their social life consisted of observing Jewish holidays and visiting family and friends. Very often, she was the power behind the throne getting her way by having her husband say what she wanted to say herself. Life for this family, as well as other Jewish families in Bagdhad during the period up to the 1930s, was by and large tranquil and happy.
