Mexican Citizen Sentenced to Five Years in Prison for Texas to Indiana Cocaine Conspiracy

Last of 16 Defendants to be Sentenced
NOV 18 -
(Indianapolis) On November 15, 2010, U.S. District Judge Sarah Evans Barker sentenced Enrique Marquez, 28, a citizen of Mexico, to five years in prison following his guilty plea to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute and to distribute in excess of five kilograms of a mixture or substance containing cocaine. Joseph H. Hogsett, United States Attorney for the Southern District of Indiana, announced the sentencing in this case, which was the result of an Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force investigation by the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Indiana State Police.
Marquez was one of 16 persons to be prosecuted in this case involving a conspiracy to distribute cocaine from the state of Texas to the Indianapolis, Lafayette, and Crawfordsville, Indiana areas, among other locations.
According to Assistant U.S. Attorney Josh J. Minkler, who prosecuted the case for the government, Judge Barker also imposed five years supervised release following Marquez's release from prison.
"The Drug Enforcement Administration, the Indiana State Police, and the United States Attorney's Office effectively removed a cocaine distribution network reaching from Texas to Indiana," stated Jack Riley, Special Agent in Charge of the Chicago Field Division, which includes the state of Indiana. "Drug traffickers from abroad reach our neighborhoods with their poisons through organizations such as these, which operate for little disregard of anything other than profit."
