Alpine Resident Office participates in National Take Back Initiative

Joseph M. Arabit, Special Agent in Charge of the Drug Enforcement Administration-El Paso Division  announced that On September 25, 2010, the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) will sponsor "National Take Back Day" in coordination with local law enforcement agencies and community partners to provide an opportunity for the public to surrender expired, unwanted, or unneeded pharmaceutical controlled substances and other medications for destruction. Removing these potentially dangerous drugs from our homes not only reduces risks to public health and safety, but participation in this one-day event also helps bring national attention to the increasing problem of pharmaceutical abuse in the United States.
Collections will take place between 10 am and 2 pm at sites established throughout the country. In Pecos County, the Pecos County Sheriff's Office and the Ft. Stockton Police Department have offered DEA their assistance and are supporting a collection site at the Ft. Stockton Police Department. Other collection sites will be available in Reeves, Brewster, Culberson, and Presidio Counties which can be found atwww.dea.gov .
Collections are completely anonymous. No questions asked.
All prescription and over-the-counter medications in solid dosages, such as tablets and capsules, will be accepted.
No intravenous solutions, inject able items, or needles will be accepted.
Illegal substances such as marijuana, cocaine, and methamphetamine are not part of this initiative.
