Assignment 5

Due: Monday, June 11th (All Sections)

Assignment 5 - GIF Animation

For this assignment you are to scan in or find a copy of the official NYU Torch. First, you should "clean up" your copy of the torch in Photoshop so that it looks presentable. Pay particular attention to the edges of the torch, and make certain that they have been nicely "aliased" for your background.

From this initial image, and using Adobe's ImageReady, you are to create an animated GIF file of at least 12 images (although certainly not limited to 12!). You may make your torch do anything you wish: It could be a simple, business-like flicker of the flame; it could be a title or slogan that sprouts out of the torch; or it could be a Monty-Pythonesque flight of fancy. Anything is OK, as long as it is done "elegantly" and with some imagination.

Extra credit will be given for particular spectacular examples.

Although yours is likely to be more complex, here is a simple example:

Load your pages up to the server using the FTP client of your choice (Fetch, WS-FTP, etc.) So that you do not have to destroy the look of your Home Page, this assignment will use the following naming scheme for its page:

assign5.html

Thus, the URL for looking at your page (presuming that you have Net ID "abc1234") would be:

http://i5.nyu.edu/~abc1234/assign5.html

However, note that your index.html page MUST have a link to assignment 5 that is easy to see!

Your final Photoshop file should be submitted on a diskette. Please label your diskette with your name and section number and submit it in an envelope which also has your name, section number, and "assignment #5" written on tthe outside.

In addition, you must email the grading account to tell us that your page is ready for grading. The subject of your message should be "Assignment 5" and the body should include both your name and the HTML address of the form

Email a notice with the URL for your page to:
