V22.0060-01: Database Design and Web Implementation

In this course, we introduce principles and applications of database design. We begin by discussing design; and working with database applications on the desktop using Visual Basic and Microsoft Access. We introduce and then soon move on to web-based implementations of database applications. Your primary projects will use a MySQL database running on the undergraduate webserver with Perl and XHTML to present a coherent and attractive interface for the users. I encourage students to explore not only the principles of database design but also how to apply those principles in general and with particular attention to applications in your respective fields of interest and study. Please do not hesitate to contact me with any questions. I look forward to working with you all.
