Using Microsoft PowerPoint:
- First slide: Will focus on the "purpose of the web site." You should use text that is at least two levels and preferably three levels (lists).
- Other slides should contain at least the following information:
- Use one slide to construct a flowchart for the entire web site. The flowchart will serve as a site map for your web site. Each item on the flowchart should represent one web page indicating its title and design colors. You should include how web pages will be linked to one another (using arrows or other clear indication).
- Use a slide to discuss the "audience" that the web site is targeting. This item is important to decide what type of design you will employ in your web site: "conservative" if its targeting "educational" or "business" community. If you are targeting the art community then it can be flashy; or for children, you might want very large graphics and many colors.
- Outline the design elements in your project. What are the color choices for the web site? Do you plan to use a similar background to unify the pages or different backgrounds for contrast?
- Indicate technical elements you would like to incorporate in your web site: image maps, rollovers, frames, tables and so on IF you are familiar with these terms.
You will find these elements listed above extremely important in planning and constructing your web site since it helps you to focus on information architecture and web design, the two concepts that are crucial to building powerful web sites.
- Your presentation must include a background design of your own choice (such as an image, a texture or color gradient or other selection) which must appear on each slide (it does not have to be the entire background, it can just be an image that appears on each slide if you prefer).
- Your presentation must include at least one graphic on one slide in addition to the one that appears on all slides.
- At least one slide must have a different layout than the others (but the same background and your image must appear).
Be as creative as you wish to create a flashy and colorful presentation to design and market your web site.
You must turn in:
1) Save the Powerpoint presentation as an html document (Choose "save as web page" from the file menu in PowerPoint.) and call it asg5.html. Please note that PowerPoint will create an HTML file called asg5.htm and a folder with many files in it entitled asg5_files. Do not try to rename the file or folder and do not move the files around because it is important that the relative locations of the files remain the same so they will appear properly on your web site after uploading.
2) Then use Fugu on the Mac or winscp on the PC to load up the files. Here is how you can load up all of the files in just two steps: one for the calling file asg5.html and one step for the folder containing the presentation called asg5:
- Open Fugu or winscp the way you usually do to upload files into your public_html folder .
- First copy the asg5.htm file to your i5 directory.
- Now you are ready to upload the rest of the files. Select the asg5_files folder and copy it to your i5 directory
Optional for extra credit:
5. For 2 points of extra credit: include at least two transitions and/or special effects on every slide and animate at least one slide and then post your PowerPoint file to your i5 account. Include a link from your index.html or assignments.html to the PowerPoint file.
