What is great about CYGWIN
It is completely free!
Low-barrier entry, no-anxiety try out:
Just download it and check it out.
If you fail (or do not like it), just delete all
your downloaded files. All you lost
was 1-2 hours of time. But consider the possible payoff.
Stable environment (unix-based) with lots of tools.
All the GNU compilers and tools are available.
Easy to install.
No need to dual-boot. Great time saver!
Shares files with Windows.
Cygwin can get to all the files in Windows.
Conversely, Windows can get to all the files in Cygwin.
Convenient automatic upgrade/update facilities
The "setup" program of cygwin remembers all the
software you have downloaded.
Go back to the "setup" as often as you like to
download new software, to upgrade installed software,
to re-install software, or to un-install software.
