Status Report: jini (30-1-2001)

Last Week

Summary: Sherif and Boris concentrated on learning jini and getting a jini system up and running. Ian began looking into TSpaces and storage/replication details.

Ian

  • Learned TSpaces
  • Looked at storage/replication

Sherif

  • Started all the Jini Services
  • Learned about Jini (Lookup, Discovery, Leases)

Boris

  • Continued learning Jini
  • With Dan's help got Jini services to run on Unix

This Week

Summary: Sherif and Boris will work on the Monitor (polls existing POP3 servers for email) and the Router (directs messages to Storage and devices). Ian will implement storage including ACLs and leasing, but not replication.

The goal by the end of the week is to have a simple jini system up that we can test on.

Ian

  • Implement Storage
  • Integrate storage into jini system

Sherif

  • Implement a POP3 client to grab email from POP3 servers
  • Format each email as an email object and pass them on to the router Boris is implementing

Boris

  • Implement the Router
  • Integrate Router with Storage and Monitor

Deliverables for next tuesday

Summary: Bare-bones jini system that can monitor for new emails and rout them to storage. Possibly a POP3 server to read email out of storage.

Essentially be next tuesday, we want to be able to retrieve message from our existing POP3 servers (Sumatra etc.) and have them stored within our system depending on how they are filtered/routed.

Ian

  • Storage implemented as a jini service
  • Router interfacing with storage service
  • Simple, bare-bones jini system up and running

Sherif

  • POP3 client

Boris

  • Basic Router is done and integrated into one.box network.
  • Service starting is automated.
