ജന്മദിനം [Date of Birth]
Basheer and his neighbour Mathankunju were born one day apart; the latter was born on 20th January 1908 (7th മകരം 1083 Malayalam Era); so much is stated by Basheer, together with the confession that he does not remember his own age (and the advice that one must not ask married men their age), in his `ഓര്മ്മയുടെ അറകള്' [The cells of memory] (Chapter 6: അച്ഛന് വീഴുമ്പോള് [When father falls]) published in the year 1973; his parents who remembered his date of birth had passed away by then, and the records they left had been burnt by his brother. In his `ജന്മദിനം' [Birthday] published in the year 1945, the birthday of the lead character (presumably Basheer himself), is given as 8th മകരം. Therefore, it seems reasonable to conclude that Basheer was born on 21st January 1908, Tuesday.
