Resolution of the Department of Cinema Studies, Tisch School of the Arts

Passed 13-0.

Although we the faculty of the Department of Cinema Studies recognize the need for long-range planning and the need for better space in an overcrowded teaching environment (we have, for instance, witnessed the extremely poor conditions in which some of our Tisch colleagues work) we have very serious concerns with the NYU 2031 plan as currently formulated. First and foremost, we lament the lack of consultation with the faculty, who constitute the core of the University, when university administration initiated this costly, long-term project. Furthermore, we think the project, as formulated, comes with serious risks for NYU: increased debt, potential erosion of faculty retention and recruitment, and long term damage to the quality of life in the Village location in which the University takes pride.
