Computational Mathematics and Scientific Computing Seminar

** THURSDAY talk at 12:00pm ** Computational Problems in Tensors

Speaker: Shmuel Friedland, University of Illinois, Chicago

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1302

Date: May 15, 2014, noon

Synopsis:

Please note this talk is being held on a THURSDAY at 12:00pm.

Nowadays data are given as d-tensors, (d-multi-arrays), where usually d > 2. The problems in tensors pose many computational and numerical challenges, since most of the problems are NP-hard. In this talk we will discuss two prob- lems that the speaker worked on: low rank approximation of tensors and com- pressive sensing of sparse tensors.
