Pattern Formation on the Sphere

Speaker: Hadrien Montanelli, Columbia

Location: Warren Weaver Hall 1302

Date: March 2, 2018, 10 a.m.

Synopsis:

Reaction-diffusion equations are simple models that generate all kinds of patterns observed in nature. In this talk we present algorithms for solving those equations on the unit sphere with applications in biophysics. Implementations in MATLAB and Julia make it possible to compute solutions to high accuracy in a very convenient fashion.
