Installing Cygwin

We will be using Cygwin as our environment for C programming.  Cygwin provides many of the capabilities of Unix/Linux  within a Windows environment.

Install Cygwin on your PC by going to the Cygwin web site, cygwin.com, clicking on the "install Cygwin now" icon to download setup.exe, and then execute setup.exe to actually do the installation.  A number of web sites, such as http://www.physionet.org/physiotools/cygwin/ and http://www.gammon.com.au/smaug/installingcygwin.htm step you through the process.  Besides the defaults, you should include gcc-core (under Devel) and some editor, such as nano.
